Latest Update

To all the donors,

I would like to update you of the flood relief work done by us in the past 2 weeks in Walva and Miraj Taluka in Sangli district. It has been a very challenging time for flood affected victims and their families.

I have personally visited many villages, where the entire village has been consumed by the flood, thousands of people were temporarily displaced along with their animals. In some very unfortunate cases, animals were cut loose in the flood water with flotation devices, as the water level was rising rapidly.

In such a demanding time, volunteers from local colleges (Rajarambapu Institute of Technology) along with our team created a centralised kitchen in Islampur to supply hot food packets to affected victims in various camps in the area. The maximum number of packages made per day were 5,000. These were delivered by us to most of the affected villages by road and in some cases food was sent by boat to villages that were cut off from the main land. Additionally, we started the supply of packaged mineral water as well to these families as the supply of drinking water was scarce. This helped families sustain their immediate requirements when they were displaced from their homes. We even made sure to supply cattle feed to these animals to the tune of 1,000 bags (50kgs)

Furthermore, we received help in the forms of grains, non perishable items, waters bottles, blankets etc from various parts of Maharashtra. Some items were dispatched immediately to certain villages. Other items have been sorted into smaller quantities and supplied in kits to these victims. This region will never forget the help received from the state, especially when several of these families had lost hope, this was a ray of light in their life to help them support their small world.

I would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support, and would express the deepest form of gratitude to help the people of Sangli during this unforgettable natural disaster. I would also like to inform each one of you, that the money raised by you will be fully utilised for the upliftment of these flood affected villages. As observed by me, help has flooded in terms of food grains, and other items. However, many people have an insurmountable loss, where they have lost their animals(their source of income) , and their houses have been washed away. For these families, we will utilise this fund to help them build their houses again and give them some money to replace their animals. This would instil them with confidence, and act as a catalyst to empower them financially in the long run.

Finally, even though the flood waters have receded and people have moved back to their damaged homes, we will ensure to help as many families to refresh their lives once again as explained above.

I would like to thank you for your donation towards this noble cause. This small token of help from you will never be forgotten by these victims.

Always grateful,

Rajvardhan Patil

Story

Heavy Rains lashed the state of Maharashtra in the beginning of the month of August, and due to the incessant rainfall and the dams overflowing, excess water has been released by large reservoirs in the state, namely Koyna Dam which has resulted in swelling and overflowing of River Krishna.  The river passes through Sangli District, located in the southern part of Maharashtra. The main affected regions in Sangli district are Miraj and Walva Taluka. This has severely affected the lives of people and animals in the villages along the banks of the river.

The flood level has surpassed the mighty floods of 2005, whereby villages have been evacuated and emptied for the safety of the people. These families are now relocated to various government schools, public halls and at various communal places. Apart from their house structure, they have lost all their belongings and savings. A majority of these families rely on agriculture as their primary source of income, and the floods have washed out their farms and animals, thereby affecting them for several months to come. Many villages have been completely cut off / isolated from the district and when the flood does eventually subside they will return to their dilapidated houses. The displaced animals are already suffering from shortage of cattle feed and there are more pressing times to come.

The number of people displaced in the district is approximated at around 53,000 people so far along with thousands of Animals.

In such desperate times, the people of Sangli require your attention and help. The region has never experienced this severe flooding hence they were unprepared and the loss of property and farmland is unimaginable.

We know that the country and state always stands together in such severe and desperate times, and we would like you to donate for the cause of flood relief and to help these victims restore their life in whatever way we can.

Your donations would be used for the following –

  1. Purchase of Blankets , Carpets , Clothes
  2. Help fund reconstruction of the victims houses
  3. To Distribute Food Grains
  4. To Construct Animal Shelter & Animal Feed
  5. Food Packaging Material
  6. Medicine for Flood Affected Families

We are grateful for your help!
